Jawbreaker Big Muffs

A couple of Big Muff pedals for the band. As a huge inspiration to me for decades and in essence a part of me, I just felt like doing something in return. I hope they enjoy them as much as I loved building them.

Salt Girl is my take on it with a midhump switch to give it a bit more presence and most component values come from just experimenting with different combinations until I found what I feel a BMP should sound like. BC550s and 914s for clipping. I had the boards manufactured at OSHPark in Oregon using their clear solder mask on black. I absolutely love this look and stick the ground plane on the backside to show off the traces. I kept it pretty simple with the 4F logo and some lyrics from my favorite song on it. I chose these knobs as the white indicator line on them line up with the rain in the graphic when at 45° and don’t take away from the overall aesthetic. The clear lens turns a calm yellow when powered on and of course I had to use “Pain” on the Gain control.

The green one uses values from the Sovtek Green Russian Versions 7B and C- I used 2N5089 transistors here and 914s again. I used some EHX knobs and a red led and lens on a matte army green enclosure to complete the look. And the Cyrillic in the bottom left says “Made in Lafayette”. I dig it!
